Hansville, Washington

Hansville is an unincorporated community in Kitsap County, Washington, located at the northern end of the Kitsap Peninsula, affording sweeping views of Admiralty Inlet, Whidbey Island, and Puget Sound.
Until 1930, there was no road to Hansville and locals had to take a boat around Point No Point to the east and land on the shores of what is now Hansville. Fishermen from around the world flock here to reel in a salmon while taking in the sweeping views of Admiralty Inlet, Whidbey Island, and Puget Sound. While visiting Hansville, be sure to stop by the Point No Point Lighthouse. Built in 1879 to guide boats safely between Kitsap and Whidbey Island, it has been in continuous service since Jan. 1, 1880, when the light was first lit by keeper John Maggs. The lighthouse was manned until 1980, when it was automated by the Coast Guard. It was recently turned over to the county by the U.S. Coast Guard. Until 1992, it was one of the last staffed lighthouses on the Western seaboard. Other points of interest are Buck Lake Park and the Nature Conservancy site located near Foulweather Bluff -- one of the shortest and most rewarding hikes in North Kitsap. There you'll see Ospreys, Bald Eagles and Great Blue Herons. Hansville is just a short drive from the Kingston ferry dock and is also accessible by boat. For bicyclists, the road out of Hansville is steep and long. It is not recommended for beginners. There is an abundance of wildlife viewing and bird watching. Fishermen may catch salmon from the beach while taking in the views and watching the parade of marine traffic. This rural community enjoys some of the area's lowest rainfall totals, making it an ideal outdoor recreation site.
