Lake Stevens, Washington

Population: 6,640
Located in Snohomish County

The greater Lake Stevens area, 38 miles north of Seattle and eight miles east of Everett, Washington, is centered around a 1,040 acre natural lake with eight miles of shoreline. Area residents enjoy fishing, water-skiing, sailing, sailboarding, canoeing and swimming on the lake, surrounded by views of the nearby Cascade Mountains and the abundant greenery of local parks and lakeside residential lots.

EDUCATION
'Expect the Best' at Lake Stevens School District. The District's mission is to ensure a safe, challenging learning environment that nurtures self-esteem and provides all students the knowledge and skills to become productive, fulfilled and responsible members of society. Five elementary schools, two middle schools and the newly enlarged high school are strongly supported by local voters at election time, and by volunteer helpers in the classroom.

SHOPPING AND BUSINESS
Lake Stevens has two shopping and business locations 'Downtown' on the northeast corner of the lake, and Frontier Village on the west side. Each area offers grocery, hardware and a wide variety of retail shops, excellent eating establishments, health care facilities, garden supplies, and offices for insurance and real estate agents and the myriad of professional services necessary to serve an active
populace. Small businesses prosper and contribute immeasurably to the well-being of the community. Two developing industrial parks offer employment close to home.

THE WEATHER
The climate is moderate, tempered by its proximity to Puget Sound and its cooling summer breezes. Rainfall averages 39 inches a year, with low temperatures in the mid to upper 30s in the winter months (providing one or two short-lived snowfalls each year) and highs during the summer in the 70s and 80s.

PARKS
Five public parks grace the shores of Lake Stevens, and two of them provide launching facilities and docks for small boats. Lundeen park has a wide beach and a shallow protected swim area that is perfect for children. Catherine Creek park provides a peaceful, wooded setting away from the lake, and attracts picnickers on every warm day.

EAGLES
The commanding presence of the great bald eagle attracts 'eagle watchers' in areas all around the lake. Nesting pairs are frequently seen.
