Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park is a beautiful island themed with Americana during the 1800's. Volunteers in full costume are stationed around the park to give tours through the Blennerhassett mansion. Picnic shelters, horse drawn carriage rides and bicycle rentals are among the recreational activities available. This scenic island has long, sandy beaches, beautiful forestry, and broad meadows that deer, waterfowl and other birds call home.
A point of interest among the several parks in Parkersburg is the actual city park. This particular park offers paddleboats, miniature golf, horseshoes, tennis courts and more. Most all the parks are home to winding trails with tranquil serenity for joggers, hikers, rollerbladers and moms with strollers.
The Golf Club of West Virginia is one of the most scenic 18-hole golf courses in all of West Virginia. The gorgeous trees, fairways and greens are a sight to behold and enjoyed by golfers of all skill levels. For indoor activities, Parkersburg also enjoys a brand new culture center and a vaudeville theatre right in the downtown area. One can enjoy plays, live music, comedy and other cultural activities.

Form of government
The city government of Parkersburg has a mayor and nine council members. They all serve concurrent four-year terms. The city has full-time fire and police departments. It also operates its own water department, sewage treatment plant and garbage collection service.
