Population: 12,107 Located in Milwaukee County

Incorporated after World War II at the height of the "Baby Boom", Brown Deer was conceived as a community in which America's middle-income white and blue collar workers could raise their families, an area of comfortable houses surrounded by spacious lawns, of good schools, of parks and playgrounds and a safe and nurturing environment for children. With this premise in mind, the residential areas are purposely separated from the many businesses and light industry that line Brown Deer Road, the main east-west thoroughfare. Attractively designed and realistically priced condominiums are plentiful on the western and eastern edges of the Village. Median income is $74,558.

There is every kind of shopping available nearby, at the Northridge Shopping Mall, a mammoth 2-level center anchored by Sears, Boston Store, Yonkers and Penneys, and up and down both sides of Brown Deer Road east to the Milwaukee River. Another large shopping area borders the river with outlet and department stores, and one of the most popular grocers in the area. Nearby is the North Shore YMCA, a spacious newer facility offering a wide range of activities for a minimum membership fee. One of the Y's two pools, regulation Olympic-sized, is used frequently by swimmers in training for the Olympics and other competitions.

Think of golf and you'll think of Brown Deer. A private country club, Tripoli, lies within Brown Deer, however the pride of the city is beautiful Brown Deer Park; with tennis courts, picnicking, ice skating, cross country skiing, a bicycle track, and one of the five finest public golf courses in the nation, three-time host to the U.S. Public Links Championship.
