Greendale, Wisconsin Greendale is one of the cities in the the Southwest suburb of Milwaukee. Originally, created in 1936 as one of the three "Greenbelt" communities built by the federal government as an U.S. Department of Agriculture experiment in urban planning. The city is modeled after an English garden town. The main street features a picture-book village hall that overlooks two rows of shops and restaurants. Narrow side streets and cul-de-sacs are lined with the original cinder block homes that give the city its English flavor. The median income is $74,961. Greendale is serviced by the Greendale School District. At the primary schools the student/teacher ratio is 15; while, the secondary schools has a ratio of 16. 79% of the graduates plan on attending college. Parks, gardens, recreational areas and open spaces completely surround the community. The Southridge Mall is located in Greendale and is one of the largest and most popular regional malls in the Milwaukee area. Additionally, the Southwest suburbs contain some of the most beautiful park land in the county. Whitnall Park and the Root River Parkway offer acres of green space for picnicking, bicycling, hiking trails and many other types of family enjoyment. There is also the county-owned Boerner Botanical Gardens, Wehr Nature Center and the public Whitnall Park Golf Course.
