Located in Brown County
Howard is located in Brown County in the northeastern section of Wisconsin. The area is crisscrossed by and extensive network of interstate highways and railways. Howard's proximity to three of the Midwest's largest economic centers marks the area as a strategic location for business. Minneapolis, Chicago and Milwaukee are less than four hours away. Part of Howard's charm is its rural feel. The Village of Howard is just south of Suamico, and like that town shares the share of Green Bay. Howard, like its neighbors had historically been a rural community with most of its land undeveloped, either used as farmland or covered by woods and/or wetlands. In recent decades, however, the development activity has been substantial. This growth, primarily residential, has made an impact on the character of the village. Houses are now interspersed within many of the woodlands, while farm cropland and pastures have given way to subdivisions. Despite this development the town has retained a country feel, and one factor that has helped with this is the Barkhausen Waterfowl Preserve. This preserve has 920 acres of forest, meadows and wetlands where prehistoric Indian tribes once hunted, fished, and camped. Today this natural area is home and refuge for a wide variety of waterfowl, wildlife, and plant species. Over 9 miles of scenic hiking trails run through the marshes and forests of the preserve. These trails are also groomed for cross country skiing in the winter months. Housing prices reflect the changes in the town, and future residents have choices between new construction, old established homesteads, apartments, condos, garden flats or even farms! New construction in this area starts at $200,000 for a large four-bedroom home, although there are many homes in the newer subdivisions that are smaller and come with lower price tags. As Howard is close to Green Bay, there is plenty of "big city" life available, and only 3 miles away! This is after all home to the famous Green Bay Packers, and that's not all - there are golf courses to challenge you and tickle your fancy, or catch a movie at a state-of-the-art theater, or rent a boat and spend a day on the Lake or in the lee of the Bay itself. You are only limited here by your imagination. Howard may have developed over the last decade or so, but it has remained true to its roots and sticks to the values that helped develop it into the wonderful village that it is today. Why not come and see what makes Howard truly great?
