Come experience Maple Bluff living with its unique history and strong sense of community. Until one hundred fifty years ago, Maple Bluff was a heavily wooded part of Taychopera, the countryside around the famous Four Lakes. The Bluff was not good farmland and, frankly, the cows had a tendency to fall off the bluff into the lake! By 1840 development began and residents seemed to consist of those attracted to the remoteness from bustling, growing Madison, or those who wanted to enjoy a game recently imported from Scotland. In 1899, the Maple Bluff Golf Club was formed (5 holes). Although Maple Bluff has been invited to become part of Madison, the Villagers have continued to take care of themselves, even though surrounded by the city and dependent on it for some services. Maple Bluff has retained its character as a predominately single-family residential community and is pleasantly different from most of the older residential areas in Madison. Many present and former residents believe that Maple Bluff is a special place for children to live and grow.

Maple Bluff offers many activities and recreational programs to its residents. Some include the Maple Bluff Beach (tennis, craft programs, swimming, and games) is called Arts & Athletics, Camp You-Gotta-Wanna (3-7 year old program held each summer at Firemen's park), soccer goals and a baseball backstop (Johnson Park), tennis courts (across from beach house), traditional 4th of July Celebration (parade, refreshments, and fireworks), Garden Club, Boy Scouts, Maple Bluff Marina, and Maple Bluff Country Club.
