More than one hundred years ago, a group of rugged pioneers stood on the beaches of a Kettle Moraine lake in Southern Wisconsin and were awed by the natural beauty and fertility of the land. They named the lake, Big Muskeeguac, which is the Potawaton Indian word for "place of the sunfish." A settlement was born and soon the abundance of fish and game along with the flourishing agriculture attracted Norwegian and German immigrants. While Milwaukee developed into a thriving industrial city, families began to build cottages in Muskego to "getaway." The new highway system in the 1950's transformed Muskego into a Suburban community. As in the past, controlled growth continues to be the guideline for Muskego which encompasses three lakes.
Water lovers flock to Muskego which offers three lakes for year 'round enjoyment. The three lakes are Big Muskego, Little Muskego and Denoon Lake. Wind Lake is nearby.
