The City of Wauwatosa was incorporated in 1892, and is now the 7th largest city in the state. Stroh Die Casting Co., Grede Foundries, Inc., Empire Level Manufacturing Corp., Western Metal Specialty and Falk Corporation. These companies employ over 173,000 people. Several new office buildings are being built near I-94. The median income is $67,095. Wauwatosa is the home of the Milwaukee Regional Center, the area's largest employer, a consortium of public and private health care institutions established in 1968 and employing nearly 10,000 persons. In addition to the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center and Medical College of Wisconsin, the 220-acre Medical Center campus includes Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital, Curative Rehabilitation Center, the Milwaukee County Mental Health Complex and Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. The city of Wauwatosa is served by the Wauwatosa School District. The student/teacher ratio is 15. The average graduation rate is 83%, with 75% of the graduating students pursuing a higher education. All grade levels consistently perform well above the national average. Wisconsin students scored highest on the American College Test (ACT) in the 1996-97 school year.
