The unemployment rate here is one of the lowest in the nation and there are many positions open, especially in the fields supporting Wyoming's energy industry. Casper is very involved in furthering development of alternative energy sources. Both the City and the County have recently made provisions outlining procedures for homeowner-utilized wind power. The community also developed a beautiful parkway along the North Platte river through land once blighted by refineries. Recycling centers are strategically placed throughout the community.

There are many opportunities for higher education, as well as vocational training in Casper, with its two-year community college, which has arrangements with the University of Wyoming to offer many bachelor¹s degrees, as well as some master¹s degrees. Casper College is the home of the Tate Geological Museum and is very active in identifying and preserving local area fossils and dinosaurs.

Casper is home of the Wyoming Symphony Orchestra, an outstanding and nationally recognized children¹s choir, an outstanding art museum and more.

Hiking and skiing opportunities abound on nearby Casper Mountain. The area also provides some of the best trout and walleye fishing in the west. The city has an up-to-date recreation center which includes a gymnasium, ice-skating, and an aquatic center. Casper is home to the largest hospital in the state with the only life-saving helicopter service. Besides the normal DARE and other recognized educational services, Casper formed a Meth and Drug Awareness Task Force five years ago promoting employers involvement in pre-employment drug testing. The community also hosts an annual Drug and Alcohol Conference featuring outstanding nationally-recognized experts in the field. Between 450 and 500 people attend this annual conference. Meth has dropped from the number one drug of choice to number three.

Wyoming Medical Center is a community-owned, not-for-profit licensed 206-bed regional medical center which has served the citizens of Wyoming for more than 90 years. It has grown to the state's largest medical facility and regional trauma center attracting patients from throughout Wyoming and beyond for procedures.

Casper Golf Club, Casper's public golf course, opened in 1929 with the original layout designed by Robert Muir Graves with sand greens as putting surfaces. In 1953, the greens were changed to bentgrass along with some re-routing of the holes. In 1997, an additional nine holes, designed by Keith Foster, were opened, making Casper Golf Club, Wyoming's only 27-hole golf facility.
