Wilderness areas are within a 2 hour drive. More than 75 percent of the land within Washakie County is publicly owned. Golfers will appreciate Worland's 18 hole municipal course. Winter also affords many recreational opportunities such as downhill skiing, cross country skiing, and snowmobiling.

Worland has a highly-skilled and motivated labor force. As a result of various industries and government agencies in the area, Washakie County has attracted a large number of well-educated, highly trained and accomplished people. Admiral Beverage, a regional Pepsi-Cola Bottler, Crown Cork & Seal, a beverage can manufacturer, Holly Sugar, a sugar refining mill, Wyoming Gas and Natural Gas Processing, providing gas service to Worland and the surrounding communities, Washakie Memorial Hospital, and the Bureau of Land Management are the major employers in our community.

Worland's schools are part of the Washakie County School District #1 which is comprised of five schools with a combined enrollment of 1,726 students in grade K-12. Public schools include a senior high school, a middle school, and three elementary schools. The district provides a variety of special interest courses, a full athletic program in addition to a general curriculum. The district also provides full services for handicapped students.
